In August of 2021, torrential rainfall from Tropical Storm Fred caused landslides and major flooding destroying homes, uprooting trees and clogging the East Fork Pigeon River in Haywood County, NC with dangerous debris. This posed an imminent threat of additional flooding and damage to infrastructure and the sensitive riparian ecosystem.
Using environmentally friendly removal techniques and best management practices, SDR worked quickly to remove this hazard. Resulting in the removal of over 20,000 cubic yards of debris from more than 60,000 linear feet of stream bank.
